Note: Catharine Thomas Abbott, 86, of 437 Gassaway St., died Friday at Lila Doyle Nursing Center. Catharine Thomas Abbott, 86, of 437 Gassaway St., died Friday at Lila Doyle Nursing Center. A native of Hodges, she was the daughter of the late Herbert J. and Lillian Esther Harvey Thomas, and the widow of G.F. "Red" Abbott. She earned a BA degree at Lander College and an MA degree at Clemson University. She taught in Pickens County Schools and retired as Assistant Principal at Daniel High School in 1978. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa and Delta Kappa Gamma International Honor Sorority for Women Educators. She was a longtime member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church, where she was active in every area of each church work, including teaching Sunday School, membership in Dolly Brock Circle and the Administrative Council, and in her retirement, served as Church Secretary for 19 years. Survivors: A son, Glenn F. Abbott, of Seneca; daughters, Judy A. Elrod and her husband Tony, of Seneca, and Dr. Cathy Abbott of Oklahoma City, Okla.; grandson, Michael Elrod and his wife Kelly, and their children, Bryce and Abby; and grandson, Matt Elrod and his wife Cathy, and their daughter, Rebecca. Service: 3 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, with burial at Mount Zion Cemetery. Visitation: 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
